SCI 1143 History of Math and Science I (3)

This course surveys the beginning of scientific thought in Egypt and Greece which serve as the foundation for modern science. It includes an examination of pre-Christian views of the universe, Roman, and Islamic contributions, and those of the early Medieval Period. The goals of the course are to introduce students to the ideas of the scientists and mathematicians of the Greatest Books of the Ancient World and to develop familiarity with their ideas as contributions to the development of science and scientific discoveries and the development of human culture and Christian Civilization. Particular emphasis is given to changing views and concepts of "science, nature, and man.

Greatest Books excerpts are studied in conjunction with the primary text, A History of Science by Williams and Williams.
